New workshop takes a broad look at sustainability
Since sustainability now permeates a wide range of industries, including art and agriculture, Ivey Professor Tima Bansal has spearheaded a new multi-disciplinary workshop that looks at sustainability through different lenses.  February 7, 2012.

Ivey Sustainability Conference - Theorizing Organizational Response to Systematic Problems   Hosted by Ivey and sponsored by the Beryl M. Ivey Fund, (hosted by Mike Valente) this conference brings together leading scholars in management to explore how to rethink management thought to build theory and frameworks that speak to how businesses can play leading roles in responding to systemic problems.  April 14 - 16, 2012

Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives of Sustainability  Hosted by Ivey, and sponsored by RBC and the Centre for Environment and Sustainability (organzied by Tima Bansal).  The workshop is comprised of six sessions, each facilitated by a faculty member representing a different academic discipline.  Open to faculty members and PhD students.  January 19 - April 6, 2012. 

EDC’s International Business Scholarships – 30 awards valued at $4,000.  Eligible for 2nd, 3rd or 4th year (non-graduating) bachelor degree students of international business or business combined with sustainability / environmental studies.  Must be continuing bachelor degree studies in the 2012-2013 academic year to be eligible.   Apply online by January 30, 2012.  

Water and Agri-Food Innovation: Does Our Future Profitability Depend On It? Helmi Ansari, Dianne Cunningham, Kevin Jones and David Sparling discuss the key competitiveness issues facing the Ontario agri-food sector, and how the sector’s future growth and profitability will critically depend on the ability of companies to innovate their products and processes and integrate sustainability into their business practices. Show Me The Green competition, University of Toronto Mississauga is a one day case competition for undergraduate students. The goal of the competition is to challenge students to redefine conventional methods of sustainability and come up with a green product or service that is both sustainable and economically feasible. Register your team by Sunday, January 15, 2012. The registration fee is $100.

Rob Klassen wins Best Paper at the Decision Sciences Institute conference (Nov 22, 2011).  The paper is titled "Is safe production an oxymoron? Exploring how firms simultaneously manage safety and operational competitiveness."

Export Development Canada (EDC) launched its 14th annual International Business Scholarship competition. EDC’s scholarship program offers up to 30 scholarships annually, 25 of these for outstanding undergraduate students in international business and five for those in programs that combine business with environmental or sustainability studies. Recipients will receive a $4,000 award.  Deadline is January 30, 2012 Program

Ethical Oil: Join the Conversation
While an increasingly accepted viewpoint is that the development of Canada’s oil sands only benefits energy companies and their shareholders, lawyer and conservative pundit, Ezra Levant, makes an equally compelling ethical argument for the support and development of Canada’s oil sands. He will be joined by award-winning Ivey Professor Rob Klassen whose research revolves around sustainable development and the environment.

Ivey students interested in building sustainability in developing nations joined microfinance representatives from across the globe at the 2011 Toronto International Microfinance Summit.  With conference fees sponsored by the MasterCard Foundation, over 20 students attended from Ivey, making us the best represented school at the event.

J. J. Wettlaufer Distinguished Visitor Lecture Series featuring Craig Kielburger, CM, MSM, OMC, a Canadian activist for the rights of children. He is the founder of Free The Children and co-founder of Me to We, a social enterprise that donates half its annual profits from selling products such as organic, fair-trade clothing to Free The Children.  (London)  More details.
