Markets and Movements for

Sustainability

November 4-9, 2010

The PhD Sustainability Academy is an annual event of the Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability (ARCS) hosted by The Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario (Ivey).

This year's theme is Markets and Movements for Sustainability, which will explore: the intersection of social movements and market creation for more socially and environmentally responsible products and services; governance and leadership topics that bridge the social and organizational domains; and capabilities for leveraging positive social change.

Oana Branzei is the Ivey faculty host and organizer. Four prestigious guest faculty will join the event:

Jay Barney, Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University

Tom Lawrence, Simon Fraser University

Wes Sine, The Johnson School, Cornell University

Klaus Weber, Kellogg School of Business, Northwestern University

Fire-side chats hosted by ARCS founding members Tima Bansal and Andy King as well as seminars, panels and site visits that have participants dialogue with leading practitioners will help increase the relevance and impact of their research.

The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2010. Submission can take one of two formats – full manuscripts or extended abstracts. Full manuscripts should follow the AMJ style guide for empirical manuscripts or the AMR style guide for theoretical manuscripts. Extended abstracts should outline the intended research contribution, context, method and preliminary findings and include references and exhibits (theoretical model and/or preliminary findings). The extended abstract format is designed for doctoral students working on their proposals who have not yet completed the data collection. Please include a 150 word abstract, a 150 word bio, and a recent photo. Email your full submission to Oana Branzei, obranzei@ivey.uwo.ca, and Marlene J. Le Ber, mleber@ivey.uwo.ca.

PhD Sustainability Academies are enjoyable, intense learning journeys with a like-minded community:

“The PhD Sustainability Academy was an incredible experience […] outstanding faculty working hard to push us forward with our research topics. […] What was also remarkable was the genuine commitment made by the faculty to provide support beyond the days we spent together […] to see us succeed in the years to come.”
Lára Jóhannsdóttir, University of Iceland

“It was definitely one of the best academic experiences of my life. I therefore can only encourage you to experience it yourself."
Christoph Beuttler, University of London

“Thanks to everything I learned in the Academy I've published my first article. I just wanted to say thank you, all of you inspired and challenged me, and this is the outcome.”
Lillian Ortiz, Universidad del Turabo

“Thank you again for everything! It is overwhelming to have finally met so many great professors that have an interest in seeing me succeed […]. I appreciate it more than you can imagine!"
Jocelyn Leitzinger, School of Business, George Washington University
