SUSTAINABILITY
COURSES
MBA
In addition to the many case studies within each
of the core MBA and HBA courses, the MBA program
contains several courses that fall under the
auspices of the Centre.
Module 3: Competing Successfully in a
Global Environment of the new MBA program
contains two segments that are directly relevant
to the Centre. The Managing Individuals
within Corporations and Society segment
sensitizes students to the role of individuals in the
corporation and the role of corporations in
society. The Leading a Culturally Diverse
Workforce segment sensitizes students to the
cultural influences and biases faced by managers
and leaders of global organizations.
Additionally, many of the other segments contain
activities or case studies developed by or
relevant to the Centre for Building Sustainable
Value.
HBA
Since 2007,
second year HBAs take a core course called
Individuals, Corporations and Society.
This course covers topics pertaining to
sustainability such as stakeholder management,
clean technologies, ethical decision making,
non-profits, and sustainable business models.
In addition all first year HBA
students partake in four diversity workshops
covering gender discrimination,
gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered experiences
in the workplace, accommodating persons with
disabilities, and sexual harassment.
EMBA
Sustainability is considered a part of the
contemporary topics course taught in this
program.
PhD
During the
2006/2007 and 2007/2008 years a doctoral seminar
entitled "Building Sustainable Value" was offered to
PhD students. In the true spirit of the
cross-enterprise centre, each class was taught
by a different faculty member with expertise in
a different social issue. The course will
continue to be a great forum for interaction
between doctoral students and a great number of
faculty, and it could potentially lead to new
cross-enterprise research collaborations.
