GUEST SPEAKERS

Ivey has welcomed a number of high profile speakers related to the Centre for Building Sustainable Value so that students learn about corporate social responsibility in practice.

Speakers scheduled for 2010-2011 include:

  • The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson will be the keynote speaker at Ivey's "Steering into the Storm" Conference on March 9, 2011. She will be joined by Ron Dembo, CEO of ZeroFootprint; Mark Jacobson, Professor at Stanford University and
    Nick Parker, Chairman of Cleantech Group.
  • Social Innovation @ Ivey Day welcomed a number of esteemed speakers from the non-profit sector of London's community. Complete list.
  • John Smith, former special advisor to the CEO who played a critical role in restructuring GM following bankruptcy and led the turn arounds of Cadillac and
    Allison Transmission will be speaking to the Ivey community January 19, 2011.
  • The President and CEO of The Roosevelt Group, Mr. Theodore Roosevelt Malloch will be presenting "Doing Virtuous Business" - an Emmy Nominated PBS Feature on one of his latest books to the Ivey Community on November 10, 2010.
  • Bob Walker, Vice-President of Sustainability at Ethical Funds Ltd., one of Canada's leading financial firms in the socially responsible investment industry will be presenting to the Ivey community on October 21, 2010.

  • Social Innovation @ Ivey Day welcomed a number of esteemed speakers from the non-profit sector of London's community. Complete list.
  • Farouk Jiwa, Social Entrepreneur, Senior Ashoka Fellow & Senior Regional Technical Advisor, Economic Development Unit, CARE USA. Farouk Jiwa provided an interactive bootcamp on social enterprise, drawing on his work with CARE Canada and CARE USA.
  • Eric Gales, President of Microsoft Canada, spoke to the Ivey community about his leadership and vision within this corporation
  • Phil LaRocco, founder of E+Co, in an energy bootcamp and as a guest speaker in the HBA Individuals, Corporations and Society course
  • Bryan Gilvesy, proprietor of Y U Ranch and an alumni of Ivey's HBA, spoke to HBA students about sustainable agriculture
  • Penelope Simons, law professor at the University of Ottawa, spoke with the HBA students and discussed the Governance Gap: Business and Human Rights in Conflict Zones with a particular focus on Talisman Energy in the Sudan

  • Gordon Lambert, Vice President Sustainable Development for Suncor Energy, on climate change and carbon capture and sequestration technologies.
  • Corinne Boone, managing director of CO2e.com, on greenhouse gas management, clean development mechanisms and emissions trading.
  • Ian Howard, MEDA Investments and Menova Energy, on carbon offsets and solar energy systems.
  • Jason Steinberg, Partner at Carbon Foresight, on tracking and managing carbon footprints
  • Ryan Little (HBA), Vice President of Business Development at StormFisher Biogas, on biogas and clean technology
  • Mark Achbar, Director of The Corporation, spoke on his movie
  • Edward Burtynsky, photographer and protagonist of Manufactured Landscapes spoke

  • Eric Beynon of Suncor joined HBA students in the Individuals, Corporations and Society course
  • Jamie Kennedy of Jamie Kennedy kitchens spoke to HBA students about his sustainable restaurant philosophy
  • Chef Paul Harding from The Only on King in London

Speakers in 2006-2007 included:

  • Dr. Kirsty Duncan on the Millennium Development Goals. The theme of her presentation was "Leading the Change" and she appealed to students to show leadership in making positive change for the future.
  • Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party of Canada, on the evolution of environmental issues in international politics and business.
  • Ivey alumnus Ian Ihnatowycz, founder and CEO of Acuity Investment Management Inc., on the path he followed after leaving Ivey which led him to investment research and portfolio management with a distinct focus on socially responsible investing.
  • Sonia Labatt, a well-known philanthropist and advocate for the environment, on carbon credits and how they can help to reduce the production of greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming.

  • Eleanor Meyers, Chief Deputy Information Officer for World Vision International.
  • Scott Forbes from "Kids Alive" on providing homes for children who are parentless because of AIDS.
  • Wendy Boothman, founder of "Talented Women" on "The Human Side of Business."

  • Dr. Jeffrey Wigand, on ethical business conduct and whistle-blowing.
