Profile

Michele Parkin is the Director, Faculty Relations at Western, responsible for the strategic and operational direction of employee relations with unionized and non-unionized faculty, librarians and archivists.

After attending school in Sweden, she returned to Canada to complete a BA and LLB at the University of Windsor. In her early career as a lawyer, she worked in a full-service firm and became a "non-profit" specialist, advising on governance and other non-profit legal issues. From this, she was invited to sit on a number of non-profit boards developing her sense of the contributions and challenges of mission driven organizations. Ultimately practicing in the area of civil litigation and later focusing on labour and employment law, Michele's professional path broadened to include formal credentials in human resources management and later, an EMBA from Ivey. With this combination, she has held owner/manager/executive positions in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, in a variety of industries including retail, education, hospitality, professional practice, consulting, and horseracing.

Michele has been a post-secondary level lecturer since 2000, offering courses in human resources, labour and employment law, labour relations, collective bargaining, and managing in the public sector.
