Patricia A. MacDonald is an Assistant Professor in the Strategy Group. She earned a BComm (Queen's), a MBA (Ivey), a MA in Conflict Analysis and Management (Royal Roads), and a PhD in strategic management (Ivey).
Pat's primary research interest is in the strategic implications of conflict, in particular organizations' ability to generate strategic renewal and learning out of conflict. Her recent work has explored the conditions that enable collaborative activity and learning between individuals and organizations that hold conflicting world views. She strives to provide insight into organizations' ability to transform conflict and craft constructive responses and positive outcomes at the individual, organization and societal levels.
Pat has taught in the International MBA programs at the University of Victoria and the China Agricultural University in Beijing and has assisted with core strategy courses in the MBA program at Ivey.
Prior to pursuing a career in academia, Pat was a management consultant, most recently a post merger integration in the financial services industry. She created and led a national practice for Ernst & Young, helping clients to improve and align their customer strategies with their corporate strategy. There she worked with organizations in manufacturing, gaming, automotive, electronics, and health care. Pat has also consulted independently, helping a range of private, non-profit and government organizations develop strategies, implement major changes and manage inter-personal and inter-group conflict. She is a Chartered Mediator (CMed), a Project Management Professional (PMP), and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC).
