Experiencing over 400 real world business cases in the HBA Program will give you the knowledge, skills and judgment to perform at an entirely different level when you enter the workforce. It's a true simulation of the realities of business.
Some traditional business schools use cases as exercises to support lectures and textbooks (in fact, many use Ivey cases), but Ivey is the only undergraduate program in the world that is committed to the case study method of teaching. In fact, Ivey is the second largest producer of case studies in the world, second only to Harvard.
Learn by doing, not just listening
Instead of listening to lectures and taking notes, you dive into real issues, make and defend real decisions, feel the pressure, and take action. The case method also pushes you to reflect, refine and learn from the decisions you make and the actions you take. You learn by doing and you learn that there isn't always a right answer, just different options with different results.
Learning with cases involves three levels of learning:
- Begin by working through the case yourself, analyzing data, and developing your own ideas.
- Join your learning team and discuss your take on the business challenge and gather the insight of your peers and their unique perspectives on the same issues.
- Once in class, you are ready to be part of the lively discussion and debate that unfolds with the professor at the helm. Typically, the class begins with the professor asking, "What are the challenges here and what are you going to do about them?"
