Visa Requirements

Obtaining a Visa

  • Students going to study in Canada for less than 6 months may not need a study permit. Citizenship and Immigration Canada identifies countries from which a study permit is not required. Please check for your country.
  •  Do not arrive in Canada without a study permit unless you have permission of the CIC above.
  • From countries where the number of students going to Canada is very high, such as India and China, the visa process takes up to 4 months. Exchange students must apply in sufficient time for this process.
  • Applicants for study permits must be able to show full funding for the period of study.

Working in Canada

  • Do not plan to work while you are studying in the Ivey School.
  • While you are on a study permit for an exchange semester, or you are in Canada for less than six months without a study permit as identified above, you may not be able to work.
  • Please check the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website for answers to your questions. Immigration rules change occasionally. The CIC website is the ultimate source of information.
  • Please see the FAQ page for further information on working during the academic year.
