A Classroom You Have To Experience

In a typical MBA program you’ll attend lectures and remember facts that you can recite on exams. Unfortunately that’s not the way business works. In the real world you’ll have to make decisions without the benefit of complete information. You’ll be asked to take into account how your decision will affect – and be affected by – other areas of the company. You’ll need to work with a variety of personalities to achieve a common goal. No lecture can prepare you for that.

Ivey is the only school in Canada that adheres to the case method. In fact, Ivey is the second largest producer of business cases, and the world’s foremost producer of Asian case studies.

The Ivey learning experience is action-oriented and designed to accelerate your success in the real world. You’ll learn everything you’d learn from a lecture and more: you’ll be the decision-maker, asked to analyze the data, develop alternatives, make and defend your recommendations and experience the outcomes. You’ll take risks. Learn from your mistakes. Build your confidence. You’ll practice business in a risk-free environment, taking part in lively discussions and learning from the contributions of your classmates. The Ivey classroom is dynamic, engaging and prepares you for the real-world of business better than any lecture-based program ever could.

The Ivey case method also features our Cross-Enterprise Leadership (CEL) approach. CEL prepares leaders who will have the breadth and capacity to always see the bigger picture and to lead initiatives that enhance the whole enterprise. Ivey cases cover issues that cross every functional area and industry, from a product launch in North America to building a new plant in Asia to human resources issues in South America. Given that the average young professional will rotate through a number of different industries and job functions in his or her lifetime, having this cross-enterprise perspective gives you the confidence and expertise to make sure you’re successful in your career no matter what your future holds. When you graduate from Ivey you will be prepared to make decisions, lead teams and make a difference. In short, you’ll hit the ground running with the skills you need to succeed in a world that has no exams.
