The Ivey Purchasing Managers Index (seasonally adjusted) by the end of January 2012 stood at 64.1. The corresponding figure for January 2011 was 46.8 and for January 2010 was 57.4.

As countries all over the world suffer a crisis of confidence in the face of a deteriorating economic outlook and concerns about the health of sovereigns and banks, a new economic vision is needed to steer them on a path to recovery. Paul Jenkins, former Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, 2003-2010, will discuss the areas where new economic thinking is needed – such as the design and use of economic models, international policy co-operation and global governance – and what the challenges in these areas mean for our future leaders.
