Early identification of talent gives
organizations a competitive edge
LONDON, ON, February 26, 2009 –
With the battle for talent growing
sharper than ever as companies compete
to survive in turbulent times, having
the right person for the job is
critical.
At an upcoming workshop, David Loree,
Director of the Ivey Leadership Program,
Richard Ivey School of Business, will
show managers and executives how to
quickly recognize employees with high
potential so they can nurture that
talent to give them a competitive edge.
Loree will present "Talent Spotting:
Early Identification of High-Potentials"
on Wednesday, March 11 at 12 p.m. at the
Toronto Board of Trade.
The discussion will centre around how to
make talent spotting a natural part of
an organization's culture so that
companies make better investments in
employee development and challenge their
rising stars. When employees feel their
talents go unnoticed, they are more
difficult to engage and retain.
"When talented employees are developed
to their fullest potential, they become
a company's best assets and can help to
move an organization ahead of its
competition," Loree said. "Many
organizations focus attention on their
employees' weaknesses when they might be
better off concentrating on developing
strengths."
Loree's presentation will cover how to
judge leadership potential and structure
situations where leadership wisdom is
clearly distinguished from technical
skills and knowledge. It will also show
how to differentiate true leadership
instincts from information collection
and processing.
The event is part of the Ivey Business
School's Executive Development talent
development lunch series.
The Ivey Leadership Program is
recognized as one of the world's top
programs in general management.
