Epitherapeutics wins IBK Capital/Ivey Business Plan Competition

Queen's University team wins $25,000

LONDON, ON, March 30, 2009 – Epitherapeutics bested a tough group of companies to take the grand prize of $25,000 in the 2009 IBK Capital/Ivey Business Plan Competition at the Richard Ivey School of Business.

The company, which is developing an anti-cancer drug, was judged the best of the business plans from twelve teams from universities across Canada. The judges, drawn from venture capital, consulting, technology and asset management companies, asked probing questions about clinical trials and comparable companies while assessing the company founded by Shyam Ramchandani, currently an MBA student at Queen's University.

The runner up was Mosa Store, from the University of British Columbia, which won $10,000. Mosa Store plans to provide economical data storage solutions to small and medium-sized companies.

This is the 11th year of the IBK Capital/Ivey Business Plan Competition. This student-led competition is designed to promote entrepreneurship at the graduate student level at Canadian universities. What makes the contest especially exciting is that new businesses often get their start here.

This year's competitors also came from The University of Western Ontario, McMaster University, the University of Toronto, the University of Alberta and the University of New Brunswick.

"It's great to see such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of entrepreneurs," said Manju Rose, Ivey MBA student and one of the event co-chairs. "It was a great opportunity for Canada's future business leaders to interact and learn from a group of strong business minds."

Sponsors of the 2009 IBK Capital/Ivey Business Plan Competition include IBK Capital, Covington Capital and Ivey's MBA Association.

The winner goes on to represent Canada at the Global Moot Corp® Competition – the world's largest student business plan competition held annually at The University of Texas at Austin. There, the team will have the opportunity to compete against graduate students from around the world for up to US$100,000 in cash and prizes to start their new venture.
