Ivey Faculty to provide commentary
LONDON,
ON, May 25, 2009 – The Asia Pacific
Foundation of Canada today launched a
new publication, Asian Business Cases,
which will use cases from Richard Ivey
School of Business to offer executives
and researchers valuable insights into
the way major companies solve problems
and overcome obstacles in their Asian
operations.
"It has
long been recognized that unfamiliar
practices and structures found in
various Asian countries present barriers
to more Canadian companies entering
Asian markets," said Yuen Pau Woo,
President and CEO of the Asia Pacific
Foundation. "Asian Business Cases
offers some real-world examples of how
some companies have faced and overcome
these challenges."
Taken from
the portfolio of case studies in the
archive of the prestigious Richard Ivey
School of Business at The University of
Western Ontario, Asian Business Cases
will be available at no cost via email
subscription. The quarterly publication
is being supported by Export Development
Canada (EDC).
The new
publication is intended to help both
established companies and new entrants
clear some of the hurdles faced in doing
business in Asia. Each issue will
profile several studies of business
decisions involving the same country,
industry or topic. A commentary written
by a professor from Ivey will be a
feature of each issue. The first issue,
released today, examines some of the
challenges faced by companies setting up
joint ventures in China. For example,
one case looks at the decision taken in
2000 by Sun Life Financial in setting up
a joint venture to re-enter a market it
had dominated 80 years earlier.
The case
studies profiled in Asian Business
Cases can be accessed without cost
for three months after each issue is
released. After that time, copies can be
purchased at a modest cost from Ivey
Publishing.
Paul
Beamish, Director of the Ivey School's
Asian Management Institute said he is
pleased to be able to share with
Foundation members these comprehensive
teaching cases. "We hope that this new
publication will encourage more Canadian
companies to engage the Asian
opportunity," he said.

Business Cases is available at
