Ivey's
Fraser Johnson named as Chair
LONDON,
ON, October 14, 2009 - Fraser
Johnson, Director of the MBA Program at
the Richard Ivey School of Business, has
been named the new holder of the
Leenders Purchasing Management
Association of Canada Chair.
He will
hold the position for a five-year term
until September 2014. The award is made
possible by the generous support of the
Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation
(CPRF) to support a faculty member who
has demonstrated specific expertise in
the field of purchasing.
As Chair,
Professor Johnson will work to further
research and teaching activities in the
field of purchasing and supply
management.
He is not
only Canada's premier academic in this
field, but he is also recognized
worldwide. After earning a Ph.D from
Ivey in 1995, Johnson joined Ivey as a
faculty member in 1998. He is currently
teaching courses in purchasing and
supply, logistics and operations.
"This is an
honour to be named to this Chair," said
Johnson. "I appreciate the importance
that Ivey places on purchasing and
supply management. Ivey was the first
school in Canada to include purchasing
and supply management as a standard
credit course in its curriculum."
Johnson is
an active researcher in purchasing and
supply chain management and has authored
several articles. His textbook,
Purchasing and Supply Management (with
Michiel Leenders, Anna Flynn and Harold
Fearon), published by McGraw-Hill Irwin,
is now in its 13th edition. Johnson has
also authored a number of teaching
cases.
As part of
his research activities, Johnson has
been working with Ivey Professor
Emeritus Michiel Leenders on a
multi-phase research project examining
major changes in supply organizations of
large service and manufacturing firms.
This study has been supported by CAPS
Research. In recognition of his ongoing
research in supply, Johnson was awarded
the Institute of Supply Management (ISM)
Senior Research Fellowship. He is a
member of ISM's Education Resources
Committee. He currently is an associate
editor for The Journal of Supply Chain
Management and sits on the editorial
review board for the Journal of
Purchasing and Supply Management.
