Lecture
on emerging leadership challenges
LONDON,
ON, October 16, 2009 - The
Honourable John P. Manley, former deputy
prime minister of Canada, who was later
lauded for his leadership role following
the 9/11 terrorist attacks, will address
Ivey Business School students on how to
lead in the 21st Century.
Manley will
present "Preparing for the Emerging
Leadership Challenges of the 21st
Century" at the Richard Ivey School of
Business on October 20 at 10 a.m.
The lecture
is the fourth in an annual series as
part of the Thomas d'Aquino Lecture on
Leadership. Thomas d'Aquino, President
and Chief Executive of the Canadian
Council of Chief Executives and Chair of
the Ivey Business School's Lawrence
National Centre Advisory Council, will
provide introductory remarks.
Manley is
currently president-designate of the
Canadian Council of Chief Executives and
becomes President and Chief Executive on
January 1, 2010. He also currently
serves on boards of several
publicly-traded companies and is active
in the not-for-profit sector.
He was
elected into Parliament in 1988 and
re-elected three times. From 1993 to
2003, he served as Minister of Industry,
Foreign Affairs and Finance, in addition
to being deputy prime minister.
Following
the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, he
was appointed chairman of a cabinet
committee on public security and
anti-terrorism. He was named "2001
Newsmaker of the Year" by TIME Canada
for his leadership in that role.
