Richard Ivey School of Business helping build business education in China

Ivey joins case-writing partnership with group of 190 Chinese business schools

 

LONDON, ON, January 29, 2010 - The Richard Ivey School of Business has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee (CNMESC) and China Management Case-sharing Centre (CMCC) to collaborate on fostering the development and dissemination of China-based cases around the world.

CMCC is comprised of 190 Chinese business schools. Together with Ivey, they recognize the importance of developing China-based teaching materials for use in business education in China and across the globe.

This partnership is the latest step that Ivey has taken in China. Ivey has a long history in the country, starting with collaborations in the early 1980s, which lead to Ivey being the first North American school to establish a permanent campus in Hong Kong in 1998.

Each school in the partnership has committed to writing at least two cases a year. The best of those cases will be translated into English and be distributed by Ivey Publishing, the second largest provider of business case in the world. Those cases will be co-branded Ivey and CMCC cases.

"Chinese business schools believe in the importance of cases in making business education come to life in the classroom," said Paul Beamish, Director of Ivey Publishing and Canada Research Chair of International Business at Ivey.

"This partnership will facilitate more case writing, and will give the participating schools a pool of cases that can be accessed by other members," Beamish said. "This initiative will strengthen how business is taught and will help take business education in China to the next level."

Under the auspices of CNMESC and with offices at the School of Management Dalian University of Technology, CMCC operates as a non-profit service organization with a focus on researching, developing and sharing cases that discuss local business challenges.
