LONDON, ON, April 13, 2011 – Students at the Richard Ivey School of Business have been working hard on their final project this year. More than 500 students fanned out across London and around the GTA to raise over $31,000 for the Boys and Girls Club through the “Lemon-Aid” project.
Their challenge, issued by Hunter Straker, a brand strategy company, is for the students to use their business and leadership skills to raise as much money as possible in 48 hours with a new take on an old-fashioned lemonade stand.
“It’s amazing to see their creativity, energy and passion,” said Darren Meister, Director, Ivey HBA Program. “The students are already taking this event in directions I did not expect.”
“We are very proud to support this event and see the students bring the Ivey mission statement to life,” said Matthew Diamond, Managing Partner, Hunter Straker and an Ivey alumnus.
The students were given their assignment at 8 a.m. on Monday morning and had until Wednesday morning to tap their communities to support the Boys & Girls Club of London. The organization provides recreational, social, educational and vocational programs, to develop and maintain independence, self-esteem and self-respect for individuals and families in need.
The final total raised by the entire project was $31,138. The winning team – consisting of Nikki Bryk, Cristian Kawa, Tom Ladner, Christine Nicholson, Tyler Press, Hafiz Sorathia, Mehboob Virani and Nik Sereditch – are from Ivey’s HBA Section Two class with an individual contribution of $1,608.89.
