Aug 29, 2016

In the extremely competitive airline industry, WestJet has built up its customer base to become one of the most profitable airlines in the world. What's its secret? The company culture.

Richard Bartrem, Vice-President of Communications and Community Relations at WestJet, brought his insights on WestJet's strategy to the Ivey MBA Leading People & Organizations course on August 11.

In a blog written for the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership, Kathryn Tang, MBA '17, explores Bartrem's talk and what she learned from the launch of WestJet Encore.

"As leaders, we have the choice to set the tone for our organizations," Tang writes. "We need to design incentive structures that encourage behaviors that support our strategy and engage our stakeholders at all levels."
