November 18 update: The Business News Network link has been updated to include a summary of Boothe's video interview.

In an interview with Business News Network, Professor Paul Boothe, Director of Ivey’s Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management, discussed carbon pricing and its impact on the energy sector. The piece was part of a week-long segment called “Canada’s New Energy.”

Boothe said both carbon tax and cap-and-trade systems work and ultimately result in a price for carbon.

He cited how the auto industry has dealt with carbon regulations as evidence that companies can adapt.

“Fuel economy standards have really changed the fuel efficiency of cars,” said Boothe. “We know that businesses can adjust, but it’s important to give them an incentive to do so. We think a price incentive is the most effective way to transmit that signal to the economy.”
