Richard Dicerni Lecture, "Alberta's Shake Up: Policies, Pipelines, People"

On September 14th, Richard Dicerni, previous Deputy Minister to Alberta's Noltey government presented a lecture at Ivey titled "Alberta's Shake Up: Policies, Pipelines, People" to a group of Ivey faculty, grad students and HBA & MBA Energy club students.

The lecture included unique insights into his 18 months as the Deputy Minister to the Premier of Alberta.  Richard spoke in depth on the political churn in Alberta over the last decade which lead to the transition to an Alberta NDP government, pipeline challenges, and contemporary fiscal and economical challenges facing the province of Alberta today. 

Richard Dicerni was named Deputy Minister of the Alberta Executive Council and Head of the Alberta Public Service on October 15, 2014. Prior to accepting this position, Mr. Dicerni was an Adjunct Research Professor at the Ivey Business School and sat on various boards. He began a career with the federal government in 1969 and has held a number of executive positions in the federal public service including Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Health and Welfare, and Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet. In 1992, he joined the Ontario Government as Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy; in 1995, he assumed the position of Deputy Minister, Education, Post-Secondary Education and Training. In 1996, Dicerni was appointed President and CEO of the newly established Canadian Newspaper Association. Dicerni left this position in 1998 to become Senior Vice President at Ontario Power Generation (OPG). He stayed at OPG for the next seven years and led the company between 2003 and 2005. He held the position of Deputy Minister of Industry Canada from 2006 to 2012.
