As a specialist in Human Resources, Denis Shackel delivers workshops designed to unlock the talents of those within management, business, and government organizations. His many academic interests include creative thinking, curiosity, ethics, leadership, interpersonal communication, and high performance teams. He’s the author of Five Seconds at a Time, a non-fictional account of Denis’s struggle to survive a night stranded at 8000’ on Mt. Ruapehu (New Zealand) with temperatures of -30°C and dressed in only shorts, T-shirt, sunhat and boots.

Denis consults extensively with corporate clients, including J. D. Irving Limited, Accenture, IBM, Royal Bank, Burger King, Bell Canada, Canadian National, DuPont Canada, Bayer, Enbridge Consumers Gas, Fletcher Challenge, RCMP, Chrysler, and Maple Leaf Foods. Over the last 15 years, Denis has also been responsible for designing and presenting Executive Leadership, High Performance Team, and Coaching courses through both the American Management Association and the Canadian Management Centre.

Denis was awarded “Professor of the Year” at the University of Toronto in 2000, and again following his first year of teaching at Ivey in 2004, and once more in 2010. Denis’s most recent qualification is having been nominated for the Order of Ontario, the highest award offered by the provincial government.
