After completing the FamilyShift™ program, you'll receive an authentic digital artifact – also known as a badge. This badge showcases your achievements and commitment to professional development. You can share your accomplishment with your network by displaying digital badges on social media, websites, ePortfolios, professional networks, and email signatures. Included in your badge is a digital certificate. Your network will be able to view your personalized and authentic certificate through your online digital badge.

Program Content

Family businesses are unique. Running one requires a different perspective.

In partnership with Ivey’s Business Families Centre and KPMG Enterprise, FamilyShift™ is a week-long program built for family members taking a leadership/management role in their family business. With case studies, break out groups, guest speakers and experts, and coaching sessions, you’ll emerge an expert in the unique challenges family businesses face.

Interested candidates must complete an application form and be nominated by an Ivey Academy or KPMG Enterprise representative. Participants are selected by The Ivey Academy.

David Simpson

David Simpson is a London based financier with a broad range of business experiences and a passion for Entrepreneurship. He has financed and operated a diverse range of businesses including restaurants, golf courses, aircraft leasing, oil field serves and retail. He completed an undergraduate degree (Political Science) by part time study while he played professional hockey. Upon retirement from hockey, he completed an MBA at the Ivey Business School in 1988. Upon graduation, he began his career as an entrepreneur engaging in all aspects of corporate finance in the small business sector. In 1989, he was the co-founder of The New Enterprise Workshop, one of the earliest attempts (supported by the Provincial Government) to support fledgling entrepreneurs. As an operator himself in a "Family Business," he is keen to support Ivey's efforts to understand and support learning in this vital sector of the Canadian economy. As a practicing entrepreneur, he has a passion to promote this lifestyle choice at Ivey.

Ivey's Tangerine Leadership Centre is located in the heart of Toronto's financial district in the Exchange Tower at 130 King Street West. 

With two two-tiered amphitheatre classrooms, nine breakout rooms, a large reception area, on-site catering, ergonomic seating, wireless technology, and on-site support, Tangerine is a state-of-the-art meeting and conference facility. 

Tangerine is easily accessible using the TTC (King Subway), Go Transit (located five minutes from Union Station), Via Rail, or the underground PATH pedestrian walkway.
