Gary West worked for Royal Bank/ Royal Bank Financial Group, for close to 30 years, in a career that encompassed an extensive and very diverse background. He held a number of senior leadership positions at national, district and local business levels in Toronto, Halifax, and Montreal. A brief departure in mid-career was spent with Export Development Canada in Ottawa and Toronto and Banque National de Paris (Canada) in Toronto.

Since taking early retirement from Royal Bank and moving from Toronto to London 10 years ago in 2001 to do something different "in the second half", Gary has done some contract work and has become very involved in a number of volunteer activities. He actively contributes to various activities at the Ivey School of Business, including HBA orientation, the BCG case competition judging and HBA and MBA graduation Ring Ceremonies. In addition to the Ivey Alumni Association, he is a member of the Senate at Western University and is currently on the Boards of Directors of the United Way of London and Middlesex, VON Canada Middlesex-Elgin Foundation, Western Alumni Association, Foundation Western and at his condominium. He is also a partner/representative for Western’s Board of Governors at the Western Fair Association.

Gary, and his wife Shirley, a registered nurse and University of Toronto graduate, are actively involved in golf at Highland Country Club in London, participate in a wide range of social and fitness activities and are deeply committed to the ongoing success and recognition of Ivey as Canada's leading business school.

Gary graduated from the Ivey Business School at Western University, is also a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers (FICB) and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
