EMBA 2014, Ivey Business School
Vice President, Development
Minto Group Inc.
Why did you decide to do an Executive MBA?
I had made a career shift from architecture to real estate development and realized that to take my career tothe next level, a greater focus on the business side of development would be beneficial. An Executive MBA would give me the opportunity as a mid-career professional to supplement my education and experience in development, architecture, urban design, and engineering with the key business concepts of finance, strategy, and leadership at an executive level.
Why did you choose Ivey?
Ivey's reputation was an important element in my decision making. I had carried out extensive research and narrowed down my choice to the four top programs. The Ivey Executive MBA Program focuses on case studies and monthly classroom participation and discussions and I found the dynamic class environment and the case study methodology to be the right fit for me.
What benefits have you seen so far in your career?
I look at challenges differently now. I have developed my own method of assessing situations andcoming to better decisions. I have a wider perspective and am equipped with a wealth of knowledge and tools that I did not have before. I have also benefitted from all the support systems that come with the Ivey education, such as access to business coaching as well as an impressive alumni support network.
Please tell us about your network and the connections you made throughout the program (i.e. classmates, alumni network etc.).
I found my classmates incredibly inspiring. Coming from all echelons of the business world, private and public sectors, for and not-for-profit organizations, they were a key support system throughout this learning and bonding experience. I know we will rely on each other in the future as well.
