EMBA 2014, Ivey Business School
Head of Digital
Why did you decide to do an Executive MBA?
Throughout my career, I have formed a specialized and focused set of skills and experiences related to Technology. As the industry continues to undergo immense change, there are opportunities for personal and professional growth. The EMBA program offered a great forum for me to sharpen my general management skills, which are a critical asset to capitalize on the exciting opportunities presented by the changes in technology.
Why did you choose Ivey?
Ivey is a leader in business education, both locally and globally. I was looking for a program that would transform my approach to handling business challenges and opportunities through a hands-on methodology. In addition, many of my peers and mentors have spoken very highly of the interactive education model adopted by Ivey, as well as the overall quality of the experience.
What benefits have you seen so far in your career?
From the early days of the program, I found that the experience broadened my perspective and allowed me to think more innovatively – particularly in areas outside my typical responsibility and comfort zone. I have developed a more systematic approach to handling business problems through the knowledge transferred via program material, case studies, and classroom discussions. I have discovered access to a vast network of peers with diverse and extensive experience across many industry verticals, which has offered unique perspectives.
How did you achieve balance along with your work/home life?
The Ivey program is very demanding, which presented the biggest challenge when attempting to balance it with my work/home life. In general, I was forced to delegate considerably more tasks, which I normally would have taken on. I had to be disciplined to prioritize, delegate, and lead; shifting my focus from doing all tasks myself. This also benefited those who report directly to me, as they were given more responsibility.
