Why did you decide to do an Executive MBA?
I had for years dreamt of doing an Executive MBA to broaden my thinking and skill sets and challenge my comfort zone but was always deterred by the time commitments in my life. After finally taking the plunge I realize it is possible to manage the "Three legged stool" of work, family and EMBA. In fact, some of my most significant learning has simply been the time management piece and the ability to 'cut to the chase' even when making complex decisions based on too little information
Why did you choose Ivey?
For me the choice was easy. I visited other schools and shopped around. There is simply no substitute to having 50 peers in a room hashing out a problem. The case methodology and the focus on learning based on real life business challenges and decisions were a 'no brainer'. Not only can I apply my learning directly in my professional life every day, I can apply much of the leadership and interpersonal learning in my personal life as well - didn't see that one coming
What benefits have you seen so far in your career?
Like many before me and those in my own class, the program has been transformational for my career. My favourite part of the learning is the foundation to ask the difficult questions with confidence and becoming a driving force in conversations where previously I might have felt uncomfortable. I have just recently taken on a new VP position and Ivey has opened my mind to opportunities I would never have considered previously. The transformational journey is in my mind just beginning.
