EMBA 2014, Ivey Business School
Director, Business Development SaaS
Why did you decide to do an Executive MBA?
Three years ago, I decided that it was necessary to further my education to reach my professional goals. I knew that understanding business processes, better decision making, strategic thinking and gaining more confidence to share my views with other leaders were required to achieve my goals. Indeed, having an Executive MBA would allow me to be more credible in a corporate setting. In addition, showing the leadership at my company that I have the drive to build on my career development through a formal education makes a profound statement to them about me as an individual.
Why did you choose Ivey?
School reputation played a major role in my decision to attend Ivey. Ivey has one of the best ranked EMBA programs in Canada and is well known throughout North America, Europe and in emerging markets. I did extensive research on the satisfaction of the academic program by former graduates and what they felt about their degrees after they graduated. Their thoughts about Ivey were phenomenal. Also, the case study learning method resonated with me. We learn by applying formal education to genuine business cases that are relevant today. Finally, the program schedule had an impact in choosing Ivey. The in-class, 4 consecutive day (Thursday to Sunday) once-a-month schedule fit in well with my accountabilities at work and at home.
What benefits have you seen so far in your career?
I have already seen many benefits in my career. My thought process has changed. I analyze business situations differently and have more strategic conversations with my clients. I've also gained a great deal of respect from the leadership within my company. I've applied the decision making proficiencies that I've learned thus far to my daily behaviours. In addition, I have been able to build relationships with my classmates who are decision makers in my target field of employment.
