Some of the most common questions I have encountered during meetings with prospective students over the past couple of months surround the kind of global opportunities that are available in the Ivey MBA Program. Here’s a quick overview that may be beneficial for many of you.

International Study Trips — It’s no surprise that the majority of our MBA students take advantage of this for-credit elective option to complement classroom learning. The trip itself typically takes place in December during the MBA year. You’ll be exposed to some of the world’s most exciting and dynamic economic hotspots by visiting India, China, or South America. The toughest part is selecting just one! The South America trip is a popular pick for this year’s class.

Ivey MBA Class of 2013: Diverse Profile — 40 per cent of our current class has international work experience and the class represents over thirty languages spoken and twenty-six different birth countries. Similarly, our world-class faculty members bring to the Ivey MBA classroom diverse backgrounds and experiences from around the globe. This means they have personal experience to draw from when teaching cases that were developed from business situations in a multitude of countries — from India and South America to the U.S. to regions of Europe. You’ll experience first-hand how these diverse perspectives and backgrounds really come alive during class discussions — this is learning about the global business environment at its best.

Real-World Global Application — The China Teaching Project and LEADER project are student-run economic development programs that occur following completion of the Ivey MBA. In China, you’ll be teaching business foundations using the case method to a group of future business leaders from Beijing or Shanghai. The LEADER project is based in Eastern Europe and Russia, where you’ll work with groups of entrepreneurs on their business plans and teach modern business skills. You’ll be implementing your MBA training in a hands-on, fulfilling way and you may be amazed at the learning you take away from the experience.

International Alumni Network – How does having access to an alumni network present in nearly 100 countries sound to you? As a graduate of Ivey, there is very likely another Ivey grad in the area of the world you may want to work in. Or perhaps you simply want to have a conversation to benefit from a fellow graduate’s experience. The Ivey Alumni Network is a lifelong community that works to support the school and one another.
