In November 2013, in true Ivey fashion, the MBA class of 2014 took on another challenge head on. The goal was to raise and contribute $1000 in 1 month towards Movember: a noble cause targeting the eradication of prostate and testicular cancer, mental health challenges and other common health issues faced by men the world over.
Through the month of November, members of the Movember initiative, also known as Mo-Bros and Mo-Sistas show their support for the cause. Mo-Bros grow and groom moustaches, having started with a clean-shaven face on Nov 1, and ask friends and family to donate money to the cause as a reward for their efforts. Mo-Sistas raise funds and encourage the men in their lives to get involved.
A team of 22 Mo-Bros and Mo-Sistas from the MBA class joined together and took to social media and other campaigning methods to try to reach the fund-raising goal by the end of the month. The Ivey Mo-Town Sombreros were on a mission!
As the days got colder, the mos or lip-sweaters (slang for moustaches) got thicker. Weekly progress team pictures were taken to track progress.
At the end of the month, also in true Ivey fashion, the Ivey Mo-Town Sombreros were able to not only meet the fund-raising objective of $1000 but surpass it by more than 50%! Total funds raised by the team over the month was a whopping $1560!
Special mention goes to Mo-Town Sombrero members Cory Tanaka, Tom Pickles and Monik Vora who came out on top of the fund-raising leaderboards.
Many thanks to all the team members for your enthusiasm, motivation and efforts to eradicate men’s health issues from the face of the planet.
About Jacob:
Jacob is a recovering Aerospace Engineer. Having worked in Management Consulting for a few years, he decided to come to Ivey to get his MBA. Upon graduation Jacob plans to continue to work in Corporate Strategy Consulting, all while trying to grow the thickest, baddest, curliest trucker-stache ever known to man.
