Devon, CEMS Club President (Left) and Christina, CEMS Board Representative (Right).

The CEMS Club President and CEMS Student Board Representative represent Ivey Business School on a global level, attending conferences across the world to meet with the other 30 schools in the CEMS network. We have two amazing people representing the 2019 CEMS cohort at Ivey.

CEMS Club President for the Class of 2019 is Devon Bekker, who just recently came back from a CEMS President meeting in Prague, alongside our 2019 CEMS Student Board Representative Christina Babayan!

Devon and Christina were kind enough to answer a quick questionnaire so that we could learn more about their backgrounds, why they came to the Ivey MSc + CEMS-MIM and some other fun facts!

As a CEMS-MIM School, we are extremely fortunate to be the hosts of CEMS Club Canada. CEMS Club Canada at Ivey is a student organization whose mission is to enhance the global CEMS MIM program at the Ivey Business School by providing enriching opportunities for learning, networking and professional development.

The CEMS Club is a great way for students to contribute to both the Ivey and CEMS community, and get to know their peers from across the 30 partner schools.

Be sure to "Like" the CEMS Club Canada Facebook page and Instagram to learn more about what these and our other CEMS Student are up to during the year.

How many languages do you speak? 4= English, Japanese, Armenian and learning Spanish
How many countries have you travelled to? I have travelled to over 15 different countries.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Brazil. Brazil. Brazil. Although, there are so many other places to explore, out of the countries I have been to, the culture, the people and the geography make Brazil extremely exciting to me.
What is your favorite book? Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari
What do you think about when you're alone in your car?

I usually just dance to my favorite music.

What were you like in high school? I played varsity soccer and really enjoyed math.
You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant? Well I would obviously name him/her and then we would have to move somewhere warm together, because I don’t think he/she would survive in Canada.
What motivates you to work hard? Learning new things, sharing ideas and meeting the extraordinary people that come along with it.
What is something no one knows about you?  My grandfather pioneered the trade of copper in Japan from South Africa.
What is your goal when you graduate from the MSc Program? My goal is to work abroad, at a management consulting firm.

Name: Devon Bekker
Hometown:  Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Undergraduate Program & School: Bachelor of Engineering, Green Processing- Western University
How many languages do you speak?  2.5 (working on Spanish)
How many countries have you travelled to?  11
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?  Zurich, Switzerland
What is your favorite book?  Atlas Shrugged

What do you think about when you're alone in your car?  Sometimes I use the time to reflect on what was said or done during that day or week. But most of the time I let my mind wander and just enjoy the drive.
What were you like in high school?  A bit of a nerd who was friends with everyone, I played hockey, was in a band and my grades were not quite up to par.
You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?  I now have a pet elephant, first my elephant and I will be moving somewhere warmer because house training an elephant is not an option. Once we are somewhere warmer the backyard will need to be designed so that the elephant has a proper living space. I would also look into getting another elephant because I can’t have my new elephant getting lonely.
What motivates you to work hard?  Whenever I start to lose motivation I am reminded how lucky I am to be given these opportunities and how disappointed I would be with myself if I got to the end and knew that I hadn’t given them one hundred percent of my effort.
What is something no one knows about you?   I am a professional shower singer.
What is your goal when you graduate from the MSc Program?

I hope to work in consulting in Switzerland, Netherlands, or Brazil
