Hey MSc blog readers!

I hope everyone is having an awesome start to summer. It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with all of you, so this week we’re traveling across Ontario to learn all about Business Analytics summer life!

Getting to this point in the Ivey Analytics Lab (IAL) is an accomplishment in itself. First, there are resumes, interviews, waiting, hoping, matching, relocating and finally the actual IAL placement. While the process takes a few months every step helps prepare you for that first day on the job. Another exciting BA milestone came for some of our BA family that graduated from Ivey’s HBA program. Graduation is a fun and exciting time and we are so proud of you! Congrats HBA+ BA's.

Each IAL is a different experience. Some people have moved home with their parents for the first time in a while, others move to a place they’ve never been or lived before. Regardless of the location, each of us is having different experiences but similar takeaways. For those of you looking into the program, or starting in January here are some things to keep in mind with your IAL experience:

  • Be open minded
  • Ask questions and ask often
  • Be honest with yourself about what you want out of your internship be it networks, analytical skills or learning about an industry.
  • Treat everyday as a learning experience.
  • You’re going to make mistakes, it’s how you learn from them that matters
  • Don’t forget to have fun along the way!

In my opinion, having fun is the most important part. Find those things in your life that make it worth doing. Whether it’s learning new modelling techniques, enjoying the data you’re working with, fitting in with the company culture, travelling, eating good food, enjoying time with friends or exploring new places. The IAL gives you the opportunity to love your work life and use your off time to enjoy life outside the office!

Here are some of the things my classmates have been up to during the IAL term.

With half of the summer to go, I can’t wait to see all the adventures my classmates will embark on next. Thank you to everyone who helped put this blog post together!

Until next time!
