Vietnam was a wave of emotions. When people ask me “how was your trip”, I can never really figure out how to start. As I traveled more and more, I was starting to think that I had a decent grasp of what the world was like. I began to think that I knew Asia well and that I was going to be ready and that I would adapt easily. Compared to some of my friends, I have been to many places. This IGL experience in Vietnam has been very humbling because it’s shown me that there is always more to learn and more places to understand.

Were approaching the end of the summer and its been quite the time! Traveling to Vietnam to live and work for 8-weeks in Hanoi seems so long ago, now that Ive settled back into life in Canada. Over the 8-weeks I had the opportunity to learn so much about the inner-workings of a consulting firm while developing practical tools to help build strategies not just for clients, but for a consulting firm itself. Furthermore, working in within this industry, in an economy that is emerging and rapidly developing, was something that I genuinely believe has expanded my perspective on business and the rapidly changing world. Considering I have an interest in the management consulting industry, this was an incredible experience that I would have only been able to get through the IGL. I cannot thank my client firm enough for their hospitality, the never-ending celebrations and the amazing things they allowed me to develop alongside them to improve their approach to their own marketing and sales strategies.

It’s been a month since I left my company of IGL placement and I still felt like as if it happened yesterday. Throughout the short period of time when I worked and lived in Hanoi. I learned so much about operation/strategy consulting and entrepreneurship. I had the opportunity to interact with local co-workers and university students and therefore got treasurable friendships. I am truly grateful that I had an opportunity like this to learn while having fun in a country I’ve never lived in. Now I have more confidence and knowledge to work and live in a new place in the future.
