The second annual Ivey Sports Leadership Conference (ISLC) is pleased to announce its keynote panel of hockey personalities Christine Simpson, David Amber, Elliotte Friedman and Harnarayan Singh is scheduled for Friday, January 10, 2020 in the BMO Financial Group Auditorium at Ivey Business School at 5:30 p.m.

The panel will discuss Canada's game in the context of our changing demographics. What does it mean to be Canadian? This is a difficult question with an evolving answer. What is certain is that, as Canadian demographics change and grow over time, what it means to be "Canadian" changes, too. Embracing differences collectively and individually is vital to our prosperity as a nation. So, where and how does hockey fit in?

Our esteemed panel, comprised of some of the leading voices in the game, will share their thoughts on this and other compelling topics with more than 300 university students and sports industry leaders.

"As a Western alumna, it’s great to see the desire from students with a passion for sports wanting to help support and grow the game of hockey by holding events like this. I’m really looking forward to coming back and contributing to the success of the second annual Ivey Sports Leadership Conference," said Simpson.

After a compelling first conference created and developed entirely by Western University students in 2019, the enthusiasm and passion to continue growing and nurturing future leaders has led directly to an expanded program offering this year. Friday’s keynote will act as a key intersection point between industry executives attending The Ivey Academy to take part in dedicated, intensive leadership development and students from across Ontario looking to build on their passion for sports towards a career in sports management.

"The sports management industry is undergoing substantial change both in its embrace of on-field analytics and in the increased value of continuous learning as a means of improving overall organizational effectiveness," said Rachel Raffard, Co-Chair ISLC 2020. "Our conference is meant to support these positive developments and we look forward to a bright future as an effective contributor."

About the ISLC: The Ivey Sports Leadership Conference brings together students and executives interested in furthering the growth of the sports management industry for an intensive leadership development program, case competition and networking.
