Media Advisory: Kersi Antia deals views on Black Friday shopping/trends

Nov 22, 2013

Black Friday Expert View

The battle for Black Friday shoppers is looking like a heated one.

Kersi Antia, Associate Professor, Marketing, Ivey Business School, is available to comment on a number of issues facing retailers and on current consumer trends:

  • Why U.S. retailers are competing more aggressively during Black Friday in light of projections their sales will be tepid this holiday season;
  • The growing trend among Canadian retailers to have their own Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales on a limited basis in hope of not losing sales to U.S. retailers;
  • Consumers’ use of “showrooming,” whereby they go to stores to find the products they want to buy, but then buy them from lower-priced websites;
  • Why Target Corp. needs to get creative in Canada during the holiday season in light of lower than anticipated sales so far.

Antia is an expert on governance of inter-organizational relationships, such as franchising, distribution channel relationships, and strategic alliances, and the impact of technology on these relationships.
