On February 2, 2020, 250+ students representing top universities in Canada came up with innovative and technology-backed solutions for a mid-sized regional Canadian bank to deal with the emergence of fintech in the 2020 Technology Consulting Competition. The event was co-sponsored by IBM Global Business Services and the Scotiabank Digital Banking Lab at Ivey. Two student organizations from Western University were integral to the success of the competition: the Western Founders Network and the Ivey Fintech Club.
With the help of judges comprising IBM technology experts and Ivey entrepreneurship/finance experts, student participants learned to navigate the rise of fintech by using their ability to understand how IBM’s technology may help banks to compete against their competitors. The 2020 Technology Consulting Competition successfully led students as a community to work together and solve challenges banks are facing today, allowing them to cultivate an agile mindset and create meaningful learning experiences.
