Ying-Ying Hsieh

PhD Research Fellow
Chair of the Organizing Committee for the Toronto FinTech Conference

Ying-Ying Hsieh is a PhD candidate of General Management at Ivey Business School. Before pursuing her PhD studies, Ying-Ying received an MSc in Materials Science and Engineering at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, and worked in the semiconductor and information technology industries in Taiwan and the UK.

Ying-Ying’s research sets out to explore how trust exists at multiple levels, and how it affects organizational growth and survival of decentralized cryptocurrency organizations, a new type organization that did not exist before. Characterized by decentralization and disintermediation, decentralized organizations powered by the blockchain technology created a market without institutions and hence a novel notion of trust. Ying-Ying then compares and contrasts decentralized organizations with traditional centralized organizations in FinTech in terms of how trust relationships shift under the influence of institutional forces.

Her paper "Trust in ‘Trustless’ Platforms: A study of cryptocurrencies" has been accepted for presentation at the Medici Summer School and the Strategic Management Society (SMS) annual conference in 2016.
