We welcome submissions on sustainability issues in strategy, policy, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics, environmental studies, international business, organizational theory, organizational behavior and international development. A broad range of methodologies are also welcome, including quantitative methods, qualitative methods and experimental work. In general, it is desirable to include some empirical data.

We welcome single-authored as well as co-authored pieces on which the doctoral student is the lead author.  Submissions can include:

  • Proposal-based or dissertation-based working papers
  • Conference papers, which have been previously presented
  • Advanced manuscripts that may have already been reviewed but are not yet accepted for publication.

All applicants have to be enrolled in a doctoral program for at least part of the 2013-2014 academic year.

Submission Format

Submissions must include in separate documents:

  • Cover-page with author details
  • Separate two-page abstract
  • Full manuscript submission
  • Photo, biography and abbreviated abstract for website

For applicants at the proposal stage, submissions should include:

  • Cover-page with author details
  • Extended abstract (please indicate how much of the data are already collected)
  •  Photo, biography and abbreviated abstract for website

Abstract: Participants are invited based on the relevance, timeliness and quality of the proposed research, so the two-page abstract must include sufficient detail for the selection committee to assess potential contribution. Abstracts should be a maximum of 1000 words, written in single-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman font.

Full Manuscript: Please follow the Academy of Management Journal style guide.

Extended Abstract: The extended abstract format is designed for doctoral students at the proposal stage that may not have completed the data collection. Extended abstracts should outline the intended research contribution, context, method and preliminary findings.  It should include references and exhibits (theoretical model and/or preliminary findings).

Photo, Biography and Abbreviated Abstract: Please include a 150-word abstract, a 150-word biography and a recent photo with your submission (for examples please see the 2008-2012 participant pages).

Evaluation Process

All submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee that includes faculty members involved with the Sustainability Academy and members of the Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability.
