“Entrepreneurship is the engine of the Canadian economy. It is a key pillar of our society that we must nurture and support. I’m passionate about entrepreneurship myself and I totally support Ivey’s commitment to this field."

"Passion and attitude are things you don't necessarily learn, but the discipline of running a sound business is something you can and must learn. The ultimate objective of the Institute is to produce some very successful entrepreneurs."

About Pierre Morrissette

A self-starter who preferred reading his father's Fortune Magazine to Sports Illustrated, Pierre Morrissette knew early on that he not only wanted to be a CEO like his father, but wanted to own his own business. Having worked in the banking and communication sectors, Morrissette founded Pelmorex in 1989 and scored a major success when he purchased MétéoMédia and The Weather Network in 1993; radically transforming how weather information was collected and dispersed. In 2003, Pelmorex was awarded the Conference Board of Canada's Vision Award and was named by Mediacorp Canada as one of the Top 100 Employers to work for in the country. Pelmorex has also been voted one of the Top 50 Best Managed Companies for 7 years in a row. Morrissette was inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2010, he received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa from the University of Western Ontario and was awarded the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in Ontario for the Media & Entertainment Category. A recipient of the Queens Diamond Jubilee Award, Morrissette was appointed to the Order of Canada by the Governor General of Canada for his business leadership as head of The Weather Network/MétéoMédia, which provides weather information to millions of Canadians.

An Ivey success story

An Ivey MBA graduate of 1972, Pierre Morrissette continues to credit his time at Ivey as an integral part of his success as an entrepreneur. Since 2006, Morrissette has shared his success through gifts totaling $5 million to Ivey's Institute for Entrepreneurship. In recognition and appreciation, the Institute was named the Pierre L. Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship. He has served on the Ivey Advisory Board and is an active member of the Institute's Entrepreneurship Advisory Council.
