A new initiative within the accounting academic community seeks to open up accounting academia to a broader range of voices and recognize new and more socially equitable ways of examining the roles of accounting in our economies, societies and ecosystems. This initiative focuses on connecting accounting with other disciplines to examine accounting’s broader social influence and include a continuum of individual and inclusive perspectives. These include perspectives on the environment, indigenous philosophies, African, Latin American and Asian voices, feminism, queer accounting, people with disabilities and labour. The goal of this initiative is proactively address problems to enable a more equitable and representative society.
