Manufacturing sales fell by 2.1 per cent in April – a larger drop than expected. The third decline in four months, April's drop is blamed on lower sales of food, petroleum and coal, and aerospace products.

Assistant Professor Mike Moffatt commented on the sales drop, saying it suggests that Canada's economy may not be recovering as fast as we'd like.

"We were hoping that manufacturing would take some of the slack left by oil and gas, but that doesn't seem to be happening," he said.
