Chris Higgins | A bite out of the sandwich generation

Everything Zoomer.com featured research from Professor Emeritus Chris Higgins and Carleton University Professor Linda Duxbury on the escalating issue that the sandwich generation faces in having to support both their children and their elderly family members.

Their study entitled “Balancing Work, Child Care and Eldercare: A View from the Trenches,” examines the financial and emotional stress for “sandwichers.” In addition to causing such stress, Higgins and Duxbury said sandwiching is having a net negative impact on productivity in the workplace and ultimately on the economy as a whole.
