Ivey experts weigh in on what is needed to fuel Ontario’s growth

Provincial Budget

LONDON, ON, April 30, 2014 – The Ontario government is expected to table a budget that includes spending on welfare benefits, transit, and job-creation measures. But will these initiatives actually make Ontario more competitive?

The Liberal government has hinted it may implement a new surtax on people earning $150,000 or more annually. There is also speculation a corporate tax rate might be in order, even though reduced corporate income-tax rates have been the foundation of the Liberals’ post-recession recovery plan.

Several Ivey experts will be able to provide a post-budget analysis:

  • Paul Boothe’s recent Future of Canadian Manufacturing report looks at how Canadian manufacturers can compete and win in international markets. Boothe can speak on what is needed to keep this sector competitive as well as broader issues surrounding provincial fiscal policy;
  • Rick Robertson can comment on the impact of personal and corporate tax policy.
