It was more of a matter of East ties West in the inaugural Ivey - Haskayne Leadership Case Competition held at Ivey Feb. 26-28, 2015.

The MBA team from Ivey and a team from the University of Alberta were co-winners in the competition organized by Ivey and the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. Ivey competed against seven teams from across Canada over two rounds of competition. In the first round, students presented their case solution for WestJet Encore to Encore President Ferio Pugliese. In the second round, the teams presented their Aecon case ideas to John Beck, Founder and Executive Chairman of Aecon Group Inc., and other Aecon executives.

“The fit between these two schools is a good one,” said Gerard Seijts, Executive Director of the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership. “Haskayne focuses on ethical leadership, and at Ivey we highlight leader character in our research, student programming and outreach. Our intention is to grow the competition into the “go to” leadership case event in Canada, which features leadership cases, speakers, cutting-edge leadership research and outreach to the community.”

In addition to the competition, the event featured speakers, including Pugliese, Paula Palma, Executive Vice President and Chief People and Information Officer, Aecon, Charles Brown, President of The Source, and Kelly Fitzsimmons, Canadian World Cup Pentathlete, who brought their perspectives on leadership to students and guests.
