Why did you decide to do an MBA?

I was a few years into my career in consulting and had reached a level of seniority where I would need to start specializing in the area I was in (technology and cyber security). It's not where I saw myself long term, so it was the right time to do an MBA for not only a shorter term pivot, but to also reap the rewards from the learnings and networks gained in the longer term.

What is the most significant thing you've learned at Ivey?

The case method, through daily repetition, has trained us to become highly comfortable with making decisions with limited or incomplete data, and being able to change our mind as the situation evolves. I have no doubt this will be highly useful in our careers afterwards.

What's been the most surprising aspect of the Ivey MBA journey to date?

How much you learn through the case method. Not only about business, but how much you learn about your classmates as people. The case method and Ivey's method in general creates an environment where you can see what people are truly about. At the same time, it's a highly supportive environment and people effectively learn to complement each other in various scenarios. So my biggest surprise has been the extent to which this program develops your soft skills.

Describe the role you play professionally:

In most of my career I've been in cross-functional roles within a technology context, working with technical and non-technical folks to help achieve a common outcome. I've done this in a consulting/professional services context, so I've also been able to build strong client-facing skills, as well as project and people management.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

The high standard you hold yourself to in a client-facing job. Almost everything you do matters and reflects on not just you but the firm you're representing, so you have to stay sharp.

What is your biggest professional accomplishment?

Any time the client is happy.

What books are on your bedside table AND/OR what podcast are you listing to right now?

Small Caps podcast to keep up to speed with the Australian stock markets.

How do you manage stress (i.e. sports, exercise, meditation etc)?

Exercise. Running, walking, or boxing.
