Tell me about yourself?

Science or business? I have always struggled to answer this question. I have found a strong passion and love for both over the years. However, when the time came, I decided the pursue science at Western University. As I continued through my journey, I eventually discovered the power of data analytics. Through a few lines of code, I was able to generate meaningful insights and produce immediate change. To expand my knowledge further and gain the business understanding, I decided to pursue the MSc in business analytics. In the future, I am hoping to use the power of data to help drive business transformation and change in the healthcare, environmental and agricultural industries.

Why did you choose Ivey and, specifically, the MSc program?

As someone with a non-business background, the Ivey MSc offered the perfect balance of classes focusing on business essentials, technical skills, and soft skills. As an application-based learner, the case-based learning method enabled me to better retain core business concepts and enhance my problem-solving mindset. Paired with a diverse cohort, I knew class discussions would allow me to expand my thinking and see problems through different perspectives. Additionally, the Ivey Analytics Lab course provides an opportunity allowing students to gain invaluable work experience and explore different career paths. By understanding how skills learned in class translate to the workplace and discovering one’s strengths and weaknesses, the IAL course prepares students to hit the ground running after graduation.

What advice would you give to prospective students considering Ivey?

Step out of your comfort zone! Ivey is an amazing place filled with opportunity and learning; however, if you are not willing to be open-minded and try new things, you will never gain the full Ivey experience. Over the years, I have found my comfort zone to be more of a restriction, preventing me from being able to grow and develop myself. As such, it was only after I took that first step that I was able to overcome my fears and become more comfortable with uncomfortable situations. So, don’t be afraid, leave your comfort zone and I assure you, at the end of it all, you will come out as a better you.
