On April 4th, 2017, Ivey's Scotiabank Digital Banking Lab hosted an afternoon workshop for 50 public sector workers on "FinTech 101: What Policymakers Need to Know". Held at the tech accelerator OneEleven in downtown Toronto, participants from federal, provincial and municipal governments heard from FinTech founders working in key verticals: peer-to-peer lending, equity crowdfunding, digital wealth management / robo-advisors, blockchain, and digital payments. They also heard first-hand how regulators are promoting this vital sector through the OSC LaunchPad, and from a panel of venture capitalists, accelerators and hubs about the strengths and weaknesses of Canada's FinTech ecosystem. The day concluded with a networking reception between participants, presenters and representatives of the FinTech community.
