Developing Strategic, People-First Leaders
ATCO

Organizational Goal
ATCO is a global energy and infrastructure company with operations in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Australia, and Europe. Its leaders operate in a dynamic environment shaped by regulatory change, innovation, and market competition.
After pausing its long-running custom leadership program in 2017 to refresh its leadership profile, ATCO sought a new solution aligned with emerging challenges and business priorities. The goal was to develop strategic, people-first leaders equipped to lead through complexity, foster collaboration, and strengthen organizational cohesion—while sustaining a high-performance culture.
Solution
Partnering again with Ivey Executive Education, ATCO launched the ATCO Leadership Program—a four-day immersive learning experience for Director-level leaders. Co-designed with Ivey faculty, the program blends case-based learning, interactive simulations, and roleplays rooted in ATCO’s leadership expectations. Modules focus on interpersonal influence, strategic thinking, and multi-party negotiation, drawing from real-world energy sector scenarios. The program is reinforced through post-program learning sustainment: four-month follow-ups and peer learning pods ensure continued momentum and practical application of lessons across the business.
Impact
With multiple cohorts completed, the program has reinvigorated ATCO’s leadership pipeline and unified leaders through a shared language, mindset, and commitment to growth.
