Event Description

When OpenAI publicly launched ChatGPT in the fall of 2022 and showcased the impressive ability of Generative AI (GenAI) to articulate and communicate indistinguishably from humans, but on a vastly larger domain expertise and faster than any single human, the fear of job loss and human replacement in the knowledge economy quickly rose to prominence. Today, almost two years later, it seems that the GenAI-driven industry revolution might not be as imminent as first expected. However, questions about GenAI’s capabilities as both a decision-support tool and a decision-making autonomy remain.

In this workshop, we will explore opportunities and challenges involved in GenAI's role in the future business environment, highlighting key considerations for leaders from a management perspective. Professor Fredrik Odegaard from the Ivey Academy will lead you through a combination of discussions, exercises, case analysis and lectures as you develop the tools to build an action plan to navigate the ever-changing AI business paradigm.

What You'll Learn

  1. Explore which business tasks or processes are likely to be completely automated by AI "bots", and what value-add does the automation generate for the organization? The focus of the AI value has thus far mainly been on time- and cost-efficiencies, but to what extent will these manifest itself on balance books and cash flow statements?
  2. Understand the expected timeline for the AI-driven industrial revolution. While AI technology is evolving at an ever-faster rate, it seems general business adoption remains slow and rather modest.
  3. Delve into what kind of a corporate culture is required in order to succeed with AI. How should firms and organizations develop and promote a culture that enables an effective AI environment?
  4. What are some of the ethical and future legal considerations regarding the opacity by which GenAI engines work.
