Powering the Future: Ivey Launches Executive Program to Prepare Energy Leaders for Canada’s Electricity Future

Ivey Energy Sector Strategic Leadership Accelerator

Canada’s electricity sector is at a turning point.

Rapid electrification, emerging technologies, and shifting regulations are redefining how power is produced, delivered, and consumed. At the same time, climate policy, stakeholder expectations, and large-scale investments are raising the stakes for senior decision-makers.

To address these challenges and to ensure the long-term reliability, sustainability, and growth of the sector, Ivey Executive Education has launched the Energy Sector Strategic Leadership Accelerator for senior executives guiding their organizations through Canada’s electricity transition. The program equips participants with strategic perspective, regulatory insight, and disciplined decision frameworks to navigate the next decade with confidence.

“Leaders in Canada’s energy sector are making critical decisions that will shape our energy future for decades. At Ivey, we’re providing the strategic perspective, real-world insights, and leadership frameworks they need to drive lasting impact.”

- Bryan Benjamin, Executive Director at Ivey Business School, Executive Education

The first cohort of the program takes place December 8–10, 2025, at Ivey’s Donald K. Johnson Centre in downtown Toronto. Over the course of three immersive days, participants will engage in Ivey’s renowned Case Method, scenario planning and peer-to-peer problem solving.

Each session is designed to pressure-test decisions against the realities of today’s evolving landscapes. Along the way, participants will grapple with some of the most pressing issues facing the sector today, from strengthening stakeholder relations – including meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities – to shaping long-term investment strategies that balance innovation with resilience.

“We’re looking at solving some of the biggest challenges that our country faces for the next 10 to 20 to 30 years, as we determine how we manage and work our way through the energy transition. This is one of the largest infrastructure shifts Canada has seen in 100 years, and leaders will need strategic foresight and resilience to navigate it successfully.”

- Dr. Adam Fremeth, Program Co-Director, E.J. Kernaghan Chair in Energy Policy, and Associate Professor, Business, Economics and Public Policy

The decisions made in the next decade will define Canada’s electricity system for generations. By equipping senior leaders with strategic foresight, regulatory agility, and resilient networks, Ivey is helping ensure Canada’s sector remains reliable, sustainable, and globally competitive.
