Associate Professor, Information Systems & Digital Innovation
I am an Associate Professor of Digital Innovation and Information Systems at the Ivey Business School in London, Ontario, Canada. My career began as a systems analyst and management consultant, where I drew on my training as a professional accountant (CPA, CMA). I later ran a leadership consulting and data analytics practice that served large financial and manufacturing firms in Canada, the United States, and Asia. My first academic position was at the University of Manitoba in 1995. I completed my PhD at Western University in 1997 and joined Ivey in 1999.
My research examines the effects and effectiveness of technology mediation for individuals, teams, and organizations. Specific areas of interest include remote leadership, virtual teams, AI accountability, online trust formation, telework, e-commerce, and cybercrime. My completed research has appeared in leading scholarly and practitioner journals, including JMIS, JIT, ISJ, EJIS, I&M, CHB, LQ, and HBR. This work has received awards and distinctions including the IS Senior Scholars’ Best Publication Award and the Emerald Literati Award.
I am pleased to have supervised and worked with outstanding doctoral students, including Linying Dong, now at the Ted Rogers School of Management in Toronto, whose work focuses on IT leadership and governance; and Yulin Fang, now at City University of Hong Kong, whose research addresses knowledge management, open platforms, and e-commerce, and who serves in senior editorial and disciplinary leadership roles. I am currently working with promising PhD students on projects related to AI accountability and cybercrime emergence.
